1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Async Digital (“we”, “us” or “our”) processes information through Insect Lens: Bug Identifier (the “App”), Android package bugscope.asyncdigital. The App identifies insects from images, provides species and bite information, maintains a personal collection, and offers premium purchases.
Insect identification and bite guidance are informational only. Do not rely on the App for a medical emergency. Contact local emergency services or a qualified medical professional when needed.
2. Information we process
Depending on the features you use, the App may process:
- Photos and camera images: images you capture or select for insect identification.
- Identification results: likely species, classification, safety guidance and related response data returned for your request.
- Local collection data: saved images, species details, favorites and app preferences stored on your device using local app storage.
- Technical and network data: IP address, device and request metadata that service providers ordinarily process to deliver internet requests, protect services and diagnose failures.
- Purchase information: product, subscription status and transaction identifiers needed to provide or restore premium access. Google Play processes payment details; we do not receive your full payment-card number.
- Support communications: your email address and any information you include when contacting us.
3. Photos, AI analysis and local storage
When you request an identification, the selected image is encoded and sent over the internet to an AI image-analysis service through our service infrastructure. The service examines visible traits and returns a likely identification and relevant educational or safety information. Do not submit images containing people, addresses, documents or other sensitive information.
Items you choose to save to your collection are stored locally in the App’s private storage on your device. They remain there until you remove them, clear the App’s data or uninstall the App. When you use the share feature, the item is provided to the destination you select through your device’s share sheet.
4. Device permissions
- Camera: capture an insect image when you choose to scan.
- Photos or media: select a supported image from your device where the operating system requires access.
- Internet and network state: send identification requests, retrieve catalog content, access Firebase-backed configuration and complete online services.
- Billing: purchase and restore premium features through Google Play.
You can deny or revoke optional permissions in Android Settings, although the related feature may no longer work.
5. Service providers
The App uses third parties that process information under their own terms and policies:
- Google Firebase and Cloud Firestore: app configuration and backend-supported content or services.
- AI image-analysis provider: processes the image and prompt needed to return an insect identification. The current service integration uses Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen vision technology.
- Google Play Billing: processes purchases and restores entitlements.
- Google Play services: distributes the App and may provide platform security and diagnostics.
The website hosts an app-ads.txt record for publisher verification. The reviewed App build does not currently include the Google Mobile Ads SDK; if advertising is added later, this policy will be updated before that processing begins.
6. How and why information is used
We process information to provide identifications, show field-guide content, maintain your chosen collection, fulfil premium purchases, secure and troubleshoot the service, respond to support requests, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information or your submitted insect photos.
7. Retention and security
Local collection data remains on your device as described above. Network providers may retain limited request, security or diagnostic records according to their policies and legal obligations. Support emails are retained as reasonably needed to resolve the request and maintain business records. We use reasonable safeguards, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.
8. Your choices and rights
You may control camera and photo access in Android Settings, delete individual collection items, clear the App’s storage, uninstall the App, manage or cancel subscriptions in Google Play, and avoid sending a photo for analysis. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection regarding personal information we control. Contact us to make a request; we may need to verify it.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information should contact us.
10. International processing and policy changes
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, subject to applicable safeguards. We may update this policy when the App, providers or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
